"A Real Hero" by COLLEGE (feat. ELECTRIC YOUTH)
Since I saw Drive in October, and was absolutely floored by the soundtrack, this (what is arguably the theme song of the movie) has been the one track that continues to live on. It's not typically something that I would listen to but there was just something about the nostalgia of it. The 80's synth vibe that it gave off and the association with the unbelievable power scenes it's used within the movie, that I can't help but love it.
"Shallow Days" by COUNTING CROWS
I just downloaded their new album but haven't really had the chance to listen to the whole thing yet, but regardless, this gem of an acoustic hidden track has quickly risen to the ranks of one of my favourite by my favourite band. It's a lot more tame than their regular stuff and it's still gorgeous to listen to. Kind of soft but the emotion remains and that's why I love it. So simple, not much to it, just the guitar, the sound of Adam Duritz's voice and nothing else. Beauty.
"Cindy" by TAMMANY HALL NYC
I found this song in a similar manner I find a lot of the music I like: through the magic of it being used on a TV I like. In the case of "Cindy" it was used in "Scrubs" but had never really paid attention to it until recently. When I finally did hear it, I really really liked it. It has the flavour of a mid-90's Third Eye Blind kind of feel, which I love. It was also an extremely welcome upbeat addition to what I had been listening to at the time I found it. The rest of my music was kind of slow and was lacking any uplifting feelings. This song, timed right around the time that someone was acting as one of the only good things I had going for me, was just that much better because of it. I dunno what it is, but songs and people... I can't not associate the two.
"Thrift Store T-Shirt" by BRENT JORDAN
Yep. Also from "Scrubs". It's a simple song. It's sweet. It's basically just a feel good love song that I fell for. Very calming. Just really like it is all. No more reasoning needed.
"Some Nights" by FUN
Now, I have very little clue as to what is happening with contemporary music nowadays. The bands I thought were unknown and hipster are now playing on the radio apparently (I don't listen to the radio any more) and the bands I thought were popular are kind of fading into the abyss. I have no idea about "new music". So this group, Fun, I had only thought of as a hipster group that my hipster friends really liked. Then, as I got home for the weekend a lil' while back, I heard them everywhere. And by "them", I mean their one song "We Are Young". Not a huge fan of that one. Sounds very hipster to me, which IS a viable adjective. Trust. Anyway, literally yesterday, I happened to be watching a video about the World Series and this song was attached to it. I was blown away. Absolutely floored by the sound. When I Shazamed who the band was, I was even more shocked to find out it was the same band. Since yesterday, that has been the only song that has been playing on my iTunes. I seriously can't comprehend how much I needed this song in my life, especially after Monday. It's... just... beyond wonderful. It's different. It's something that should not sound as though it comes from the same band that sings "We Are Young". So kudos Fun. You've got me.
"Colder Weather" by ZAC BROWN BAND
This one has been around for a while now, but I've only started to re-listen to it recently. I just appreciate how nice it is. I am running out of different ways to say "I just like it, okay??" so I think I'll say for this one... I just like it, okay??
